Well, it confuses them and they get upset. Today, we switched to Standard Time. It throws their whole natural sense of time (by gradually-changing sunlight) completely off. All of a sudden, today, I feed them an hour later than they have come to expect according to the sunlight (and that really seems to matter to them). Equally, I am calling them inside an hour earlier than I was before. They feel cheated of an hour of wandering the backyard in darkness! From their point of view, I suddenly go to bed an hour earlier (which they don't mind very much as they like to curl up on me), but I also suddenly get up and disturb their sleep (on top of me) an hour early (which is not so good). Does anyone else have pets that are disturbed by our very artificial time-changes? When I am home, they start to ask for their 5 pm dinner at 4 pm. Today I had to go through an extra hour of plaintive requests. I held out for half the difference knowing that I would not be at home tomorrow to hear their complaints about the change.
I thought I was wrong once, but it turned out I was mistaken about that. |

Mine don't mind, but they have an automatic feeder and drinking fountain, and they aren't bothered by when we get up, as it varies from day to day according to our schedule. Since we have no real schedule to keep up for them, they are used to any thing at any time. Mostly Harmless |

Cat Nelson doesn't notice since I lead an irregular life anyway... I never get up at the same hour, never go to sleep at the same hour, and he can't go outside. And he'll complain if he didn't get his food. He's smart enough not to complain when I go to sleep, and never asks for food more than 2 times a day. He likes to eat, but never more than nibbling. So he gets dry kibble when I get up, and there's always a bit left to nibble from, and wet food in the evening. Everyone has a motive for giving arguments. But only the arguments given matter. |
