Hey T1g3r_w0mn, welcome to the board!!! Thanks for the head's up. Don't listen to what they have to say on the mtDNA situation - that is really in flux right now. Day Light Savings Time - in winter? Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

Scott: It's summer Down Under. . . . Oh, and is this same "Neandertal special" going to be on Discovery up here? Anne G |

Anne, he knows, he is just teasing.. Is this a new special? This isn't the one that was shown a couple of years ago, with the play-scenes in-between? The bald Cro Magnon with the tattoo? I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by - Douglas Adams |

Thalion: Okay. Thanks for the tip on the teasing. . . .not that I took it very seriously! And yes, I too wonder if that "Neanderthal special" is the same one that Discovery showed a couple years back or so. I didn't think it was particularly good. Like, for instance, every time you saw Neandertals on screen, it was snowing. Every time you saw "modern" humans, the weather was fine. and that was just for starters. Anne G |

Is that the one where the Cro-magnon spears a fish the Neanderthal has been trying to catch by hand and drops it to him on the beach in an arrogant manner? If so, that one had good points and weak points. I have that one taped and I watch it occasionally. I think it is worth watching, as long as you keep a modicum of skepticism in mind. If it weren't for my collection of taped science shows, I would go crazy sometimes. I thought I was wrong once, but it turned out I was mistaken about that. |

Yeah I wonder too. Part of that was filmed just down the road from me. I, like Anne here, didn't like it much either. But it was still interesting all the same. A quick check doesn't show it on the Canadian discovery channel over the next three weeks. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |
