Saw this report today on the case before the World Court against Israel involving "The Wall." http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=57 8&ncid=578&e=2&u=/nm/20040709/ts_nm/mideast_barrie r_dc How can something like this (the leak) happen? Most Americans who have an opinion on the Court already seem to have about as low an opinion of it as poissible. If this had happened in the U.S. Supreme Court, the fallout would be catastrophic. I'm not even sure whether a paper like the Washington Post would print such a thing if it ever fell into their hands. And what are the ramifications of this report for the international case? To die will be an awfully big adventure. --Sir James Barrie |

Sorry, bart, but I'm not sure what you consider as leaked information. "Mommy, you are not always wrong!" - my daughter, almost 6. |

Uh, I'm not sure what happened here, but the story that was in the link when I posted it Friday morning was based on what it said was a leaked report from the Court. This is not that story, according to the time on it, it's from later in the afternoon. If the news service changes the material without giving it a different address, it's news to me. The first story was suypposed to be from some sort of leaked report from the Court, which is what struck me as exceedingly unusual for a story about any kind of court. That's what I was quesioning, not whatever decision was going to be rendered. The idea of news story about a court "going to rule that..." is very alien to me, and, as I said, if it happened in SCOTUS, there would be hell to pay. Sorry for any resulting confusion, but I still can't imagine any sort of leaked information (as opposed to some legal expert just making a predictiion) in a serious news story. To die will be an awfully big adventure. --Sir James Barrie |

There are many similar ways to phrase a discussion of a ruling that is going to be made in the immediate future that aren't leaks. One can say that the court is expected to deliver its decision today, and that based on the identity of the judges and their past record the decision is more likely to be one way rather than the other. Not to unduly prolong a discussion that can't go anywhere without recourse to the original in question, but I remember the story referring to acual documents from the usual "unnamed sources." I've always had mixed feeling about that sort of thing, never encountered such a situation in my own work and don't know what I might do if it happened--probably take it on a case-by-case basis. Apologies if this whole thread strikes some as a kind of red herring, didn't realize the first story was going to disappear like that. Is that the one you're talking about? http://www.dw-world.de/english/0,3367,4789_W_12626 33,00.html Apparently, those yahoo news change all the time, not good for linking. I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by - Douglas Adams |

Yes, that's a different version of the original story, but all the details are there. Interesting that they use a different spelling on "judgment." To die will be an awfully big adventure. --Sir James Barrie |
