Ahm - I am a nerd, I admit it. But it's my job after all... When I'm honest and say 'no' to the questions with stuff I did at home, then I score 152. When I'm 'liberal' - since I know how to, and did and do all the networking, pda and wireless stuff - then I score 185. But it would be a shame if I wouldn't, since I get paid for just that kind of stuff. I'm a hopelessly underpaid network - support - helpdesk - emergency programming- jack-of-all-trades-master-of-nothing person... I love deadlines. Bloody hell. I'm not as smart as I thought I was. I only got 66 . I don't know why I even take these tests. I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains... |

Lois- that test has nothing to do with how smart you are. If you only want to use your computer as a tool - why on earth would you then need to know all this stuff. If you're truely interested in that stuff - and make a living of it- then you learn that kind of stuff while you go. I found the test interesting, but nothing more. I love deadlines. Thanks Thal. I'm heartened by the comments drawn on the same thread on the AB which I read after this one. (Message edited by lois on November 14, 2003) I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains... |

Most of the stuff I got points on was the teacher stuff, presentations and such. I also have an itch to piddle with anything to improve it. I AM NOT the techie my score would conclude. da bear If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. |

Lois, I didn't dare posting there. What can you say when people judge linux on hearsay... Ah, bear, you're probably far too modest.. I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by - Douglas Adams |

I got an 82, near the bottom of the business world average category, which seems just about right. I did well in using applications, but failed to gain a lot of points because I have no need for portability (wireless services and PDAs) and I'm not into instant messaging. Nothing about my job or home life requires a PDA or Blackberry. I don't even have any use for a cell phone. LOL! It was a fun quick quiz. A cat in the hand is worth 2 under the bed. |

Darn! The first time I accessed it I habitually denied all the cookies (telling my computer to remember the denials), so it didn't work - got to the score page without any of the questions. So I deleted the denied cookies from msnbc.com and msn.com, tried again while accepting the cookies (but not remembering the acceptance, I don't need their cookies for anything else right now) and it still doesn't work. Must be some denied cookie that still needs to be deleted. |

Nice test. I scored 136, thought I would be worse. Broadband internet, caution regarding passwords and attachments, online banking and instant messaging finally pay off. Thinking is the work of the intellect, dreaming its pleasure. - Victor Hugo |

I got 157 and I am certainly not a nerd by any stretch of the imagination. I do, however know what bluetooth is and don't know how I got along without it. The same goes for *hotspots*, my favourite being above the café that I like to hang out in the late afternoon - handy!

------Bloody hell. I'm not as smart as I thought I was. I only got 66 . I don't know why I even take these tests.----- Don't feel too bad Lois, I only got a 69. It seems heavily biased to those with laptops, who do computing at work, and who use microsoft products. And to those who actually *can* get broadband, and also live in the US. And who cart their laptop with them wherever they go. That ain't me. What does personalising your webpage on AOL mean? Does the fact that I maintain three separate websites count? I have no need for a PDA, nor do I use my cellphone for anything except one or two phone calls a month for Maria to come pick me up at some bushwalking endpoint. It seems to be more about what you use rather than what you know. Also seems biased against Macintoshes. The google toolbar is only available on windows. I had a look at it, and I'd rather just use the bar on Safari, on which I've put a google button. Works fine, and Safari eliminates popup ads anyhow. And there were no questions about Adobe Photoshop or Illustrator, nor about the various methods of uploading files to a website. Some of the questions were enigmatic. Reformatting your hard disk may or may not remove all the information on it, depending on the thoroughness of the software. Writing zeroes or ones over the whole disk a few times would make sure..... Don take what you want and pay for it |
