Well, I've had a very amazing experience, and I'm still not sure how it will ultimately end up, but here it is so far. My DH never knew his father. His father and mother were both teenagers when he was born and though his dad wanted to be part of his life, he never got the chance- and that's a long story all its own. I've been interested in finding the man for several years now- partly because I'm interested in genealogy/family history, partly because it would be nice to know the other half of DH's medical history, and partly just to know! But I didn't really know where/how to start looking, and even if I did find the guy, he might have a family who doesn't know about DH, or he might be a complete bum, or a jerk, or just anything. So there was a little fear of the unknown there as well which kept me from even looking, for a couple of years. Well, a couple days ago I talked to DH's mother, and asked her for a little more information- namely, DH's father's birthday, and his parents' names. She gave me that info as well as the last place she knew his parents to live. That evening, I was just goofing off on the net, and decided to try the online white pages. I'd already tried a search for DH's father with no luck, so I thought I'd try for his grandparents. I was honestly expecting to get no results. But I typed in the name and the city, and the first result was both the names of the grandparents, in the city they last lived in. I couldn't help but think "No way, that would just be too easy". I thought about it for maybe a minute, tops, and decided to call them. The couple was on vacation, but I discovered from their housesitter, who is a friend of theirs, that they do indeed have a son, whose name matches what I was looking for! I gave her my information and she said she would pass it along. When I hung up, I was so shocked and excited that my whole body was literally trembling. Ever been so cold that you shivered uncontrollably? That's what it was like, without the cold. This morning I called back to find out when the couple would be back from vacation (I was so flustered I didn't ask a lot of things I wanted to) and lo and behold! They were home! So I spoke to Mr. B (not his real name, hehe) and he said that he'd gotten the message, and was trying to reach his son to let him know. I didn't ask for his son's phone number, though maybe I should have, but I think he would have offered it to me if he was going to give it at all. That was earlier this morning. Now I am simply waiting for some sort of response. And the worst part? My husband doesn't even know that I got ahold of anyone! He knows I've been wanting to for a while, and has been ok with it, but he was already en route back to the states by the time I thought to take any action. So tonight when he gets home, what a bombshell this is to drop on him! I am just hoping that I hear from hubby's dad or granddad before his flight arrives, so I can have some definitive news. Anyways. Just a lot of nervousness on my part. The waiting is absolutely nervewracking. I will update when I hear more. Send prayers and/or good wishes our way! What a story! Yup, fuzzy feelings and from me, too. I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they pass by - Douglas Adams |

Talked to him this morning!! It was a fantastic conversation. There are so many similarities between the two men that it is just scary, given the fact that they never knew each other. DH has a half sister, and a baby niece as well. Instant family! It's cool. I can't wait for DH to come home tonight. His plane arrives about 9 pm. Wonder how he'll take the news? This will certainly be a HUGE surprise!! Also, I found out from DH's dad that his daughter has been wanting to try and find my DH for some time now...but I beat her to it!! Didn't get to talk to him as long as I would have liked, but we've got plenty of time for that later. Hurray!!!
