How dense are a Grizzly bears bone and muscle density? Is it true that they are more dense than human and cat muscle and bones? |

I have heard that bone and muscle density is 8-10 times that of a human, per cc, with regards to the Grizzly. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

---------I have heard that bone and muscle density is 8-10 times that of a human, per cc, with regards to the Grizzly. --------- ?????????? How can that be? Our muscles are about the same density as water, maybe a bit more. That would make Grizzlies have muscles around the density of copper or silver. Did you mean a total weight of bone and muscle ten times ours? Ted Do not go gentle into that good night...Rage, rage against the dying of the light |

Just an unsupported thought... Grizzlies can swim in water. They can't be 10 times our body density. |

There is one website I'm aware of that mentions bears having such bone and muscle density, but there where no sources on it, so I dont give it much weight. Although it is proven that Bears are weight for weight the strongest land carnivores alive(depending on how much body fat they have) , i'm not so sure about the impressive muscle/bone density. |

Hey Sumojoe, Thought we lost you for good. Nice to see you posting. "It takes all kinds to make a world and I'm just one of them." My Grandmother I don't blame you for not believing in the kind of god you think I believe in. I don't believe in that god either. George MacDonald (paraphrase)

Bears are capable of tremendous strength. Brown bears for example can carry the carcass of a Bull Moose easily (moose can get up to well over a 1000 pounds)and can smash the back of a Moose or elk or with one blow of their paw. THey have grown to such sizes that it would make some dinosaurs cringe, ie the Giant short faced bear (11-14 feet tall, 1300-2205 pounds) That kind of bear is the stuff of legend and nightmares. |

Yeah density is the wrong word. Strength per cubic cm of bone/muscle might be a better indicator. I will look for some more info when I get a chance. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |
