Welcome Les! Lurking is fun - I do that at a lot of sites these days. I hear ya too on the length of time it takes Jean to get a book done. Several of my favourite authors regularly get books out in a year to a year and a half, so in comparison, yeah it is tough to wait. But, Jean has a life too and not all authors want to write ALL the time. Jean has inspired many of us (indeed I named my daughter Ayla!) and so I hope she produces many more books. I think she is over 70! Michener wrote until he was 90, so there is hope yet!

Yes, Jean has inspired much of my life with her story. I often think much of my parenting ideals come from the series. I read the first 4 books while I was a teenager. It never occured to me to not nurse my babies, etc. I was much more interested in reading SOS this time. I didn't remember much of the story, and I actually enjoyed it! I have a hard time believing it's been 20 years since I read COTCB for the first time... I'm getting 'up there', too! Oh well. I'll just keep on hoping. |

I think this is the allure of Jean's stories - people can identify with them, even though they are set 30,000 years ago. Her characters might be friends or foes of us today IRL - and we can see that. 20 years! Indeed, you are approaching "old bag" status at the speed of light! Eeeek, just kidding - I tipped into old fart territory about a year ago myself. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

I read Mammoth Hunters for the first time when I was 12 years old. Over the years I have gone back and purchased all of the COTCB series. I love them all. Every couple years I go back and re-read all of them in order. Now I have a 12 year old daughter and hope to pass on the classic tale. That every little girl can relate to as she like Ayla grows to become a woman. Just because Jean doesn't come out with a book every year, the public just doesn't reconize her as the wonderful storyteller she is. Yet I know these books will live-on longer than we do. |

Weclome Michelle. I started at 14 and hope my daughter Ayla is interested in the series too. I think the public recognises that she is a good story teller, that is why many were disappointing with Shelters of Stone - it wasn't her best effort and she certainly had a lot of time to work on it. Jean is still working on Book 6 according to her son. There is no publication date set yet, though some publishers have 2010 listed, this is just a fill in date and nothing more. You will hear about any details here very quickly after a date has been set. If we hear anything in the meantime, such as progress (though that isn't likely), it will be posted here for sure! I think everyone is getting antsy about the wait! Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

Welcome Sharon. You bring up an interesting point. After the initial hype of a book or series, the only way one might find out about it is through word of mouth. Advertising doesn't extend to old books - so we are introduced to them either through school, friends or serendipity. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Do we have any idea on when book 6 will be out. I have been in love with the series for over 20 years. I will drop whatever I am doing or reading when this book hits the stands. |

Don't hold your breath. It will be at least a couple of years on the most optimistic estimate. Don take what you want and pay for it |
