I've been doing a bit of searching on Ayla as a name and found this graph. It looks like the name is getting more and more popular.
quote:First Year in the Top 1000: 1987 Last Year in the Top 1000: 2006 (latest year for which we have data) Average Age: 8.72 Highest Percentage: 0.086% in 2006 Best Rank: #264 (in 2006)
(From: Ayla) I wonder why the huge jump in 2006? It will be interesting to see if the trend continues. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

I chose this name for my daughter who was born October 2006. I love the name, but Ayla seemed a little too choppy, so I added a 'H' to the end making it Aylah. I wonder if anyone has done the same. It's odd because if you look up the pronounciation, it has the H at the end. |

Great name and wonderful spelling! It looks softer somehow. I've not seen the spelling anywhere, but I will look for it now. I suppose my daughter might decide to change the spelling of her name someday - this is a possibility for her. Congrats! Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ayla is a Turkish name actually, one of the oldest meaning the light you see around the moon. Considering she lives in the Crieamean peninsula it is quite suggestive is it not? |

I've done a bit of surfing around and i found Ayla to actually origin from Hebrew, meaning Oak tree. However, i like your proposal better, it would fit the character better somehow than just a plain oak tree |

No insult meant, but I named the female Siamese cat I acquired in January "Ayla". I always liked the name. It just seemed to fit her (actually, she is "Princess Ayla Isabel") And she loves to climb the big tree in the backyard. It's not an oak, but I'll tell her it is. Thank you, Carl Sagan and Richard Dawkins... |
