Okay, here is another one of those questions where I hope to cheat on research and pick your brains! If two people were trapped for a month in a cave in a cliffside without any tools whatsoever, and nothing but the primitive clothes on their back (the era is neolithic and it is summer, btw) what could they do to survive--food, warmth, basic survival. Their clothes are leather. One character is wearing armbands carved from various stones and has a few beads as well. The cave is used as punishment so it was chosen for its lack of "amenities" but I am giving myself some latitude. For instance, there will be a tiny supply of water, but I'm looking for those oh, so clever bits of info us cityslickers haven't a clue about. Thanks! (And I can add things they might have that could be used to help them survive, but they have to be things that can't obviously be used.

I moved this post to a separate thread because I fear it will be drowned by Les Stroud's ego trip otherwise.

I'm going to add the replies to this post here as well.
My own reply will come, too, promise... ;)

If I could choose the cliff and the cave and the country, the east coast of Australia would be a no-brainer.

Pick a cave on a cliff above an estuary leading to the sea. Get oysters from the estuary, and make a net from the leaves of pandanus trees or from paperbarks in the swamps, or from eucalyptus bark further inland, and net fish. Make a finer string and a shell gorge for catching fish on a line.

Make stone fish traps in the river further upstream. Collect yugari (clams) from the sand on the surf beach by standing at the surf's edge and wiggling your feet until you feel the yugari. Roast them over an open fire to get them to open, steamed and ready to eat.

Collect other shellfish from the sea rock platforms on the headland where the estuary enters the sea, and sea anemones from the rock pools in the platforms.

You don't need warmth much on the east coast, but there is plenty of firewood lying around if you want it in the eucalyptus forests further inland, and easy starting tinder for fires underneath the casuarina trees which are close to shore.

Make a woomera (atlatl) from eucalyptus and spears from the pandorea bush, straightened over a fire and fire hardened points to spear the wallabies and emus along the coast.

But watch out for the marsupial lions..........

Whoops, by the neolithic the aborigines had got rid of all the lions.

But they'd be upset that you were in their territory, using their resources. I hope you can make placatory hand signals real fast............

Just happened to see a TV show where some guy was walking around among hyenas without harm. That was very odd.
Machiavelli was pretty devious. For a guy...
