I get all the posts on the board by email, and it works a treat. All you have to do is edit your profile to receive posts on any forum. I have all of them checked. You can get them in html so it looks just like a post on the board, or you can get them as text only emails. When the emails come in I can read them quickly one after the other, no matter which forum they come from, and decide whether to follow up a particular post, and delete those I don't need. There is a link in each email to allow me to get to the thread in which the particular post I want to respond to is situated. I usually have no idea what forum or thread I am in (yes Thal, I know it is in the header if I cared to look!). This worked fine until I decided to get the emails in html form. Suddenly the link didn't work. I have had the same problem with my email version of New Scientist. However by *replying* or pretending to reply to the email, suddenly the link worked! And what's more, highlighting the text of the New Scientist email version allows all those links to work as well, if I pretend to be replying. Sounds like a "feature" (read bug) with Mail on the Macintosh. Don take what you want and pay for it |

Don, you might still want to actually look in from time to time... people sometimes edit their posts, and you only get the first version. |

Your message is too short. It must have at least 10 words that are at least two letters long. |

Is it possible regarding the computer programme you are using to delay the emails for 30 minutes (i.e. the time during which you are able to edit your posts)? IMO that wouldn't make a big difference for the receiver of the emails and this way he/she would always get the actual version of the posts. No, sorry, that's not possible. At least not now, maybe in some of the later versions. We could delay, but that wouldn't change the original email. That's why we usually encourage quoting... that way you know what was replied to, even if it has been edited out in the post. I love deadlines. We are going to change the settings of html post emails so that graemlins, images, and other embedded items are sent out along with the text. If this is a problem for anybody, it is possible to choose a "text only" email format in your profile. JADE board admins working hard to improve your viewing experience! If anyone has a problem receiving this format or if it causes problems, let us know! Scott and Annie Power corrupts, but we need the electricity |

The most recent post by email I've received is from June 5, 2008. I was very behind in reading them, so I didn't notice until today when, having caught up, I noticed there weren't any new ones. I read about the Beedings tools at ECFans and knew there should be something from JADE. Also, when there were some weird symbols when people typed quotation marks and question marks. |

Hi AnnDee, I checked your profile and nothing seems out of line there. Is there a possibility that the email address there is incorrect (in your profile)? If the email is correct, could your spam filter be deleting them? Have you got your email program accepting emails from "board at auelfans dott ca"? I've had trouble and an email from the board was "marked as junk" and so all subsequent mails from the board were deleted. Let me know. Scott Power corrupts, but we need the electricity |

OMG! Dang it! Yeah, my server thinks JADE is spam. It thinks newsletters from my quilt guild are spam. And a couple other things I want to get. Why would it decide to change all of a sudden? Grrrr. I've never been able to convince it that my guild newsletters aren't spam. Good news: While I was typing I was notified of several new emails from JADE, so maybe it's listening now. I was worried I'd have to go retrieve my email every day or so. |

In your email program is there a function that you "mark as spam"? If so, then these mails could have been accidentally marked as such (it only takes one) and spam filters are unforgiving. Do you have windows or Mac AnnDee? If you have Mac and need help, I can walk you through it. Scott Power corrupts, but we need the electricity |

I don't receive them by email. I did once, but stopped because I wasn't seeing the earlier posts for background information. I suppose this is just to let you know I saw the question but it doesn't apply to me, so have no useful info. Science does say a definite negative response has value, right? Note to all: this also means that board PMs (and @auelfans.ca email addresses) are not working ATM. Don't PM anybody until this issue is solved - they won't get the PM. Use people's direct emails if you know them. If you sent a PM to anybody recently, it would be a good idea to check whether they received it, before you take offense at not having been answered. Hopefully things will be back to normal soon. Chess is the purest form of debate, unadulterated by a topic. |

Yeah the PM's are working too. The ISP never gave me a reason why the mail was down, but it was down for a week and after literally half a dozen mails and several calls and formal ticket requests, they finally fixed it. If anyone ever has a problem with emails being sent, post here because at one point the thought was that the board was "broke" somehow - but after careful checking that didn't seem to be the case. Thanks for the patience. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |
