The board clock is out by nearly two hours for Sydney Australia, when I checked it just now. Time here is 10:00 am Sunday Board clock says 8:08 Copied from the clock: Board time (GMT/UTC) : Saturday, 09 December 2006 22:08 And this is posted on Saturday at 11:03 pm! Thanks Ted. We had some problems with it before. Here it is off 9 mins. I will have to ask Thalion if she can look into it. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

The server time was off GMT by 9 mins (0.16th of an hour). Thalion had made the correction to compensate for the server time which was off at the time. I managed to figure out where the script was on our server that Thalion set up and fixed the 9 minute error. Ted, Oz is off because your DST is screwed up in the upside down part of the earth - something about you having summer now - strange ideas people have about Oz.....whoever heard of summer in December! We have to manually compensate the script for that - and had I read the script - I would have known better! Annie ran the script for me and double-checked and we made the required edits. Rather simple afterall. Sorry for the confusion and inconvenience. Scott Power corrupts, but we need the electricity. |

I just noticed that the board clock is slow by 2 hours for Australia. My husband checked for the correct time and the minutes are allright. Perhaps it could be that we have finished daylight saving?? |

Thanks, Cave_lion_eyes! Fixed now. Yes, it's the opposite DSTs - that has to be adjusted for manually each time we switch, and a reminder doesn't hurt. BTW, everybody - the Board Clock page was set up only in a rudimentary form early on, we could add more time zones of board members! If you would like your time zones to be added, just post here to ask. Chess is the purest form of debate, unadulterated by a topic. |

Notice: we just completed an update of the Board Clock page again - making sure all places observing / not observing DST are correct, and also added some more known locations and time zones of board members. If anybody notices any errors, please let us know! Also if you would like to have your own time zone / location added, just post here to say so. Thanks for that Annie. Is there a central repository for DST across the world? It would make sense, but then again.... I wouldn't mind daylight saving if it was permanent. It's the changeover that I find difficult. It takes my body clock a week to adjust. Maybe it'll be easier now I'm retired and don't need to look at the clock every weekday and think "^&%%^(*&(*&!!!! is that the time? I still have to shower and shave and dress and ...." NSW is changing DST next year. Here are the relevant dates for 2008 and for the foreseeable future and a typical link. Note the change to both the start and end of DST. There is no indication about its effects on fading the curtains:
quote: http://www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/lawlink/cru/ll_cru.nsf/pages/cru_daylightsaving Daylight saving starts on Sunday 28 October 2007 at 2 am Eastern Standard Time when clocks are put forward one hour and ends on Sunday 6 April 2008 at 3 am summer time when clocks are put back one hour. * On 27 June 2007 the Premier announced that legislation would be introduced to provide New South Wales residents with extra daylight saving. (whether we want it or not) * The legislation was passed by Parliament on 23 October 2007. * The start of daylight saving for the 2007/2008 summer only remains 28 October 2007. * Daylight saving for future summers begins at 2 am, Eastern Standard Time, on the first Sunday in October and ends at 3 am summer time on the first Sunday in April. This means that residents in New South Wales have an additional three weeks of daylight saving at the beginning and one week at the end. * The decision to harmonise daylight saving across the south-eastern states and the ACT was made after careful consideration of the impact on both rural and urban communities. (and then ignoring any such impact) * The extended period will provide uniformity for business activities conducted across state lines and is consistent with the Council of Australian Governments' focus on reducing regulatory burdens on business. (say what?)

Thanks for the link and comments, Don! Personally I'm not very bothered by DST, due to not having any routines anyway, but I know that for normal people the adjustments are a pain in the posterior. --- Is there a central repository for DST across the world? --- Yes there is - I am relying on timeanddate.com for all my time-related information, and they always offer up-to-date info on all DST switching times throughout the world for the current year, linked from their page About Daylight Saving Time. At the moment they still have the 2007 info linked on that page, but so far they have been very reliable WRT getting updates in time. They also offer a very helpful customizable and linkable Personal World Clock service (free), where you get to pick your own list of countries and date format. PS - DST is very harmful for curtains.
