Last week I read Coyote by Allen Steele - a novel of interstellar colonization. In brief, the URA (United Republic of America) impoverishes a large fraction of its population to build the first starship - a monument to its own glory - which is then hijacked by its own crew and a group of DIs ("Dissident Intellectuals") who replace the intended colonists. The crew and colonists sleep through the next two centuries on their way to Coyote, the terrestrial moon of Superjovian Bear. (Though not without a hitch.) Once there, they found an agricultural colony.

It's an excellent book; the science is sound and although Coyote is just a tad too Earthlike to be convincing, it's alien enough that adapting to it is a challenge. I know that it's not Steele's first book. Has anyone read any of his previous books?

Welcome back, Salvia!!! :-)

In order to stay logged in, you have to go to your profile, the Preferences section, check the "Remember my username and password in a cookie" line, and make sure the "Clear the cookie when I exit my browser" line is unchecked.

Sorry, I haven't read anything by Steele yet.

Thanks, Annie... I just want to stay logged in through one whole session, so I'm trying it out now with both options checked... I still think I got a half-baked cookie, but if it doesn't fix itself I'll bring it up in the appropriate forum.
