Can a movie along the lines of Alfred Hitchcock's birds be far away? Check out: stingray strikes again
quote: An 81-year-old man is in critical condition after a bizarre attack by a stingray, which leapt out of the water into a boat and stung him in the chest. Its poisonous stinger - nearly four centimetres long - lodged close to his heart in an incident similar to the one that killed Australian TV naturalist Steve Irwin last month. Fire Department officials at Lighthouse Point, about 50 kilometres north of Miami in the US, said James Bertakis was in a small recreational boat with two grandchildren yesterday when the spotted eagle ray leapt aboard and struck him. "It's just a real freak thing," said Lieutenant Mike Sullivan, saying the incident occurred on Florida's Intercoastal Waterway, where stingrays are rarely seen leaping in the air. Mr Bertakis was undergoing surgery at a local hospital to have the stinger removed from his chest.
PS: Whaddayathink about a forum with a title like "just for the hell of it" or "I can't find a forum that fits this" or "weird and wonderful"? I put it here because the title does say that it is for crackpot ideas. I wonder if similar events have happened before, but did not get much attention at the time. I note the article said "stingrays are rarely seen leaping in the air", so I guess it does happen sometimes. I expect we will soon see a bad sci-fi/horror movie about a 30 foot long killer ray attacking a high school swimming party... Thank you, Carl Sagan... |

Like I read elsewhere, they clearly hate our freedoms and have started their offensive. I wonder when they will start blaming the Clinton administration for poor anti-ray policies. Angelus' breakfast |

I know what you mean Ted - we have struggled with the idea of a collect-all forum but are afraid of the implications of what that might become! I suspect the media is reporting it more because of Irwin's death. That's right Miisa - we should have killed them all long ago! I've had fish jump in the boat and over my kayak before, but I think a stingray would scare me half to death. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient. Ils me sourient. - Ayla |

Would a catch-all forum be any more difficult than "Head-Clash-In"? Maybe you could call it "Where All Else Fails" or "I Dunno Where To Put This, But..." or "Say What?". Thank you, Carl Sagan... |

I'm afraid it might be cavebear - afraid it would end up as a dump of crackpot ideas or worse a hair-parlour-type gossip forum which is why we avoided something like that in the beginning. Regarding Head-Clash-In - it is remarkably easy to moderate and housekeep because of the high calibre posting and posters. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient.
