In the NeW England Journal of Medicine there's an article of an accidental find by Antwerp neurological doctors regarding the location of the brain stimulated that creates for an out-of-body experience. http://content.nejm.org/cgi/content/short/357/18/1829
quote:An out-of-body experience was repeatedly elicited during stimulation of the posterior part of the superior temporal gyrus on the right side in a patient in whom electrodes had been implanted to suppress tinnitus. Positron-emission tomographic scanning showed brain activation at the temporoparietal junction — more specifically, at the angular–supramarginal gyrus junction and the superior temporal gyrus–sulcus on the right side. Activation was also noted at the right precuneus and posterior thalamus, extending into the superior vermis. We suggest that activation of these regions is the neural correlate of the disembodiment that is part of the out-of-body experience.
Apparently a patient with tinnutis received a brain implant to try and control it. But the man had episodes of out-of-body experiences that lasted up to 18-21 secs, as if he was standing 1m away from his own body, always at the left side. SO, they brain scans from him to find out what was happening as well as tried to stimulate the implant with different sequences of electrical impulses. It seemed from their experiment that the OBE coincided with the data of our senses that usually tell us where we are (hearing, feeling, etc) from two sides of the brain get messed up (well duh!), fail to connect. Note: the OBE of the man was not accompanied with autoscopic visuals of being out of his body. Everyone has a motive for giving arguments. But only the arguments given matter. |

Um, maybe Jesus was calling him home instead SSR? I think there are other studies where researchers can make a person feel out of body at will. Now this doesn't mean that they haven't really made them go out of body, but they can make the feeling happen and now know where this comes from. I think they still have a lot of work on the nature of consciousness before the jury will be settled on if it can move out of body or not. Scott ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ Ces gens, Jondalar, ils sourient.
